Information About Spanish GED Tests

Besides being set in English, you may also sit for the GED exam being taken in Spanish or French. However the locations offering Spanish GED tests may differ from those offering the test in English. In addition to completing the exam, you may also be required to take a test called the ESL or English as a Second Language before you are awarded your diploma. The acronym GED stands for General Equivalency Diploma because it is regarded as equal to a high school diploma, although the official title is General Educational Development.

The GED exam is divided and classified into five sections. They are: Language Arts (Writing), Language Arts (Reading), Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. It is necessary to score at least as well as the bottom 40 percent of graduating high schoolers. This means a score of 210 on each section, an average of 250 on each section and an essay score of at least 2 points. While this may sound confusing your local adult education center can explain the scoring process to you and help you prepare for the test.

On the ESL test you will be reading text that an English-speaking native would usually read on an average day. The ESL test may include various charts, forms, advertisements, schedules and other information that relates to everyday life. The topics of the text may include general interest, education, health, child care, shopping and consumer information and workplace related information. The questions on the ESL are both literal and interpretive. 75 percent of the questions are literal, while 25 percent fall into the interpretive category. For both the GED and ESL ample preparation is recommended.

Before sitting for the Spanish GED it is crucial you have a strong grasp on the English language. This means not only speaking in English but reading and writing as well. There are all kinds of adult education classes and English as a Second Language classes that provide excellent preparation for these tests. In addition, you can study textbooks, online materials and recruit a friend to help quiz you. Taking a practice test can let you know which areas you are good at and which areas you need to study. Once you have passed the ESL and GED you have the equivalent of an American high school diploma. This will allow you to pursue more job opportunities and even continue your education at a college or university.
