If you desire to learn how to obtain GED qualified, the first priority is to learn more about what it is and how the exam process is being carried out. For adults who say 'I want to get my GED' but don't know where to begin there are all kinds of educational resources available, many of them at no cost. The American Council on Education is in charge of GED info and testing so they are a good organization to start with if you want to learn how to get your GED. There are plenty of resource books at the library and bookstore shelves that cover massive amounts of information about how to get a GED. Titles you may want to consider include McGraw-Hill's GED : The Most Complete and Reliable Study Program for the GED Tests by McGraw-Hill and The GED for Dummies by by Murray Shukyn. These are only two of the many books that can teach you everything you need to know before taking the test. The test itself can take as long as six to eight hours and is broken into five sections.

These sections are Language Arts Writing, Language Arts Reading, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics. Writing an essay is one part of the Language Arts Writing section you should be prepared for. In order to pass the test your score will need to be better than 40 percent of high school seniors. While some people fail the test the first time around it can be retaken up to three times per year. This gives you more opportunities to get GED credentials necessary for educational and vocational advancement.

Now that you know how to get a GED you are ready to find a testing center near you and fill out the GED application and GED registration forms. This is part of how to get GED credentials. The application is simple to complete and asks basic questions. Then you will be notified of testing dates, times and locations. The GED test is given through the course of one day, with a break or more than one break in between for test takers. The test itself is long and can take as many as eight hours to complete, although some students finish far more quickly. Ample preparation can help you have an advantage at test time.
