Practice with GED Tests Online

Are you prepared and ready to get your GED qualification? The GED was first implemented in 1942 for war veterans who needed to complete their education and enter the workforce. Today, this exam is for anyone over the age of 16 who does not have their high school diploma and is not currently enrolled in high school. Many adults who dropped out of school choose to obtain their GED in order to go to college or get a better paying job. While you cannot take GED tests online, you can take practice tests online that can help prepare you for the real thing.

There are also opportunities to learn online through distance learning schools for students who desire to obtain their GED. If you would rather learn in a traditional classroom setting, many GED test centers serve as classrooms also. Your local adult education department can refer you to these GED testing sites and inform you of classes being held. These classes are part-time, usually in the evenings. This is convenient for most adults who work during the day. You will learn more about the test and the material covered on the test. The GED consists of Language Arts (reading and writing,) Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

The scoring of each section is based on 40 percent of graduating high school seniors. You must score a 210 or higher on each section, which is equal to or better than the lower 40 percent of students. If you haven't been to school for awhile and aren't confident about your testing ability, contact GED testing centers to find out about preparatory classes being held. You can also prepare for the test by taking practice tests on the Internet and in books. There are many books on GED preparation, such as those by publishing giant McGraw-Hill.

As mentioned previously, official GED tests online are not available. You must take the test at one of the GED testing centers in your local area. These GED test centers can be located by checking your local Yellow Pages or contacting an advocate for adult education in your area. While classes are often free or low-cost, there is a small fee required to take the exam. The cost of the exam is different depending on where you live. Some are as cheap as $25 while others can cost as much as $80. Your local education center can tell you how much the exam costs in your area. The exam, if not passed the first time, can be taken three more times within one year.
