Prepare for Your GED exam with a GED Pretest
The GED exam is also known as the General Educational Development test and/or the General Equivalency Diploma. If you do not have your high school diploma, you need a GED before you can pursue higher education or even get a decent job. One part of preparing for the exam is taking a GED pretest. This is a test very similar, though not identical to the official test. You can take a GED practice test as many times as you need to because you can obtain them for free.
At the start of your education, it is good to know where you stand through taking a GED prep test assessment. If you've been out of high school for awhile you may find there are subjects in which you need a refresher course. Compare your scoring guidelines on GED practice tests to the passing guidelines for the real test. To pass the GED, each section must have a score of 410 minimum. If your scores are lower on your practice test then you know more studying is in order.
You will find practice tests being added in most GED study guides. There are lots of different guides in libraries and bookstores. Consider the following titles: McGraw-Hill's Pre-GED: The Most Comprehensive Review of the Skills Necessary for GED Study by McGraw-Hill and of course McGraw-Hill's GED : The Most Complete and Reliable Study Program for the GED Tests also by McGraw-Hill. While these are general guides there are specialized guides on certain subjects as well such as GED Mathematics by Liz Anderson. After thoroughly reviewing your chosen study guide try a practice test to see how you do.
The practice test that you find in your GED guide can be done as many times as you see the need. The purpose of a GED pretest is to let you know if you have the academic skills required for successful completion of this exam. Most people find they do well in certain areas and not so hot in other areas. If help beyond home study guides is wanted or needed, there are adult education facilities where classes are held for students preparing to take the GED exam. If you enjoy learning with others in a classroom setting, then this may be a good option for you. More solitary-minded students will likely prefer online classes or textbook study.
